Choosing the song

Our song choices were..
  • But I Do Love You - Leann Rimes
  • Chiddy Bang - Fresh Like Us
  • Craig David - Can You Feel Me
  • Ellie Goulding - Fly
  • Fergie - London Bridge
  • HAIM - Better Off
  • JLS - She's Gone
  • Kid Rock - Do It for You
  • Passenger - Holes
  • Sean Paul - Don't Tease Me
  • The Saturdays - Ladykiller
  • The Weekend - Wicked Games
The ones underlined are the two songs which we can't decide on what one to do.
We had a listen to each of them and brainstormed ideas on what we could do if we were to choose that song for our final music video.

Here are two mind-maps I did on ideas for each song.

In the end we choose Ladykiller by The Saturdays as we felt we had a lot more ideas for shot types and we instantly had an idea for a storyline and so we have decided that we are going to film a narrative based music video for this song. We will create a post and upload it to the blog for our ideas on what we plan to film.

Lyrics and my interpretation of them

The lyrics for this song are as follows:

Ladykiller, oh oh, run run run

Ladykiller, oh oh, oh oh oh
Ladykiller, oh oh, run run run
Ladykiller, oh oh, oh oh oh

Time, time after time
The same mistakes made over and over
Why, why didn't I try
To take my own advice and stay away

He's got the kinda look that I cannot resist
I'm tempted by his kiss
It's killing me and I can't walk away

Oh oh oh I've jumped right in
I know I've fallen hard for him
But he's creeping inside
Crossing over the line
Better watch out, he's a ladykiller

Oh oh oh what's happening
I know I'm getting hot for him
But I can't hold it back
He's a fatal attack
Better watch out, he's a ladykiller

Stop, stop fooling myself
I know he's a full time operator
Help, professional help, is what I need
He's bad and I can tell

He's got me hooked, got me craving more and more
And I just can't ignore
His poison sinking deep into my veins
Oh oh oh I've jumped right in
I know I've fallen hard for him
But he's creeping inside
Crossing over the line
Better watch out, he's a ladykiller

Oh oh oh what's happening
I know I'm getting hot for him
But I can't hold it back
He's a fatal attack
Better watch out, he's a ladykiller

Ladykiller, oh oh, run run run
Ladykiller, oh oh, oh oh oh
Ladykiller, oh oh, run run run
Ladykiller, oh oh, oh oh oh

He's got me hooked, got me craving more and more
And I just can't ignore
His poison sinking deep into my veins, woah

Oh oh oh I've jumped right in
I know I've fallen hard for him
But he's creeping inside
Crossing over the line
Better watch out, he's a ladykiller

Oh oh oh what's happening
I know I'm getting hot for him
But I can't hold it back
He's a fatal attack
Better watch out, he's a ladykiller

Killer killer
Killer killer
Killer killer killer
Ladykiller

The title of the song 'Ladykiller' is repeated a lot throughout the song, mainly during the chorus. The definition of the slang term 'ladykiller' is "an attractive, charming man who habitually seduces women." There are other definitions below:

The lyrics for each of the verses are quite similar. For example the last line of the first verse is "why didn't I try to take my own advice and stay away." This gives us the impression that the girl has realised that this boy she has 'fallen for' has the reputation as being a womaniser and a man who possibly gets around.
Below is the definition of womaniser:

The second verse again, makes it clear that this girl has become aware of his reputation but as the lyrics are "He's got the kinda look that I cannot resist" and "It's killing me and I can't walk away." makes us think that she knows that she shouldn't have fallen for him, but she can't seem to stop herself from seeing him.

The other verses are also similar to the first two such as, "He's got me hooked, got me craving more and more" and "His poison sinking deep into my veins." Again, she knows it's wrong but she can't seem to stop herself from doing what she's doing.

The chorus lyrics are "I know I've fallen hard for him" and finishes with "Better watch out, he's a ladykiller." Similar to the verses, she's admitting she has fallen for him and likes him and at the end she is basically saying she has to be careful because of his reputation.

At the end of the chorus there is also the title 'ladykiller' and 'run, run, run' repeated. I think the 'run, run, run' lyrics are placed after 'ladykiller' because it's like the girl is admitting to herself that this man she has 'fallen for' is a womaniser and that the best thing to do would be to stop seeing him.
